Max Peter Bejmer will compete in 5 Days Domina Zagarella
The Swedish world champion joined the first edition of 5 Days of Italy in 2018 and he has been with us also in 2022. He cannot be in the starting blocks of the next edition in Cadore but he will compete in 5 Days Domina Zagarella from 9 to 13 October in Sicily. We had a chat with him about his participation.
Why in the past did you choose to participate in 5 Days of Italy? “In my family, Italy has always been the preferred vacation destination. Over the years, there have been many trips to different parts of Italy. As an orienteer, it’s always a pleasure to combine vacation with orienteering. It is a perfect way to experience new types of terrains and in general see new places. So, with this in mind, 5 Days of Italy has been a competition I have run a couple of times as it has provided many things I look for in a vacation: orienteering in exotic terrain, nice surroundings for great nature experiences, great food and overall, simply a good vibe”.
What are your best memories related to the event? “My best memory is the orienteering experience at Madonna di Campiglio, the stages where one took the gondola to 2000 meters above sea level. The orienteering terrain was open but very detailed and tricky”.
Have you already been to Cadore, home of the next edition? “I ran the World Cup final in 2021 which took place in Cansiglio (Middle and Long), which is a bit south of Cadore, and Cortina (Sprint Relay), which is quite close to Cadore I believe. The competitions were great, the long distance was brutal and the middle was technical, so overall great! As usual in that kind of area, the nature is amazing with the surrounding mountains”.
Why would you recommend to orienteers to participate? “If one likes orienteering, amazing nature, and good food then one would enjoy 5 Days of Italy. And the competitions are often well-organized”.
Why did you decide to come back to Italy for 5 Days of Sicily? “This year, 5 Days of Italy in Cadore doesn’t fit my schedule that well as I’m aiming for the world champs right about then. I have also been to northern Italy many times but have only been to southern Italy once. This is true also for my girlfriend, hence, 5 Days of Sicily was very tempting”.

Non potrà essere ai blocchi di partenza della prossima edizione in Cadore ma gareggerà nella 5 Days Domina Zagarella da 9 al 13 ottobre in Sicilia. Abbiamo parlato con lui della sua partecipazione.
Perché in passato hai scelto di partecipare a 5 Days of Italy? “Nella mia famiglia l’Italia è sempre stata la meta preferita per le vacanze. Nel corso degli anni ci sono stati molti viaggi in diverse parti d’Italia. Come orientista, è sempre un piacere combinare la vacanza con l’orienteering. È un modo perfetto per sperimentare nuovi tipi di terreno e in generale vedere nuovi posti. Quindi, con questo in mente, 5 Days of Italy è stata una competizione che ho corso un paio di volte perché ha saputo regalarmi molte cose che cerco in una vacanza: orienteering in terreni esotici, bei dintorni per grandi esperienze nella natura, ottimo cibo e, nel complesso, semplicemente una buona atmosfera”.
Quali sono i tuoi ricordi più belli legati all’evento? “Il mio ricordo più bello è l’esperienza di orienteering a Madonna di Campiglio, le tappe in cui la telecabina ci portava a 2000 metri di quota. Il terreno dell’orienteering era aperto ma molto dettagliato e insidioso”.
Sei mai stato in Cadore, sede della prossima edizione? “Ho corso la finale di Coppa del Mondo 2021 che si è svolta in Cansiglio (Middle e Long), un po’ a sud del Cadore, e Cortina (Staffetta Sprint), che credo sia piuttosto vicina al Cadore. Le gare sono state fantastiche, la lunga distanza è stata brutale e la Middle è stata tecnica, quindi nel complesso un’esperienza meravigliosa! Come al solito in quel tipo di zona la natura è stupenda con le montagne circostanti”.
Perché consiglieresti agli orientisti di partecipare? “Se a qualcuno piace l’orienteering, la natura meravigliosa e il buon cibo amerà certamente 5 Days of Italy. E le gare sono ben organizzate”.
Perché hai deciso di tornare in Italia per 5 Days of Sicily? “Quest’anno 5 Days of Italy in Cadore non si adatta molto bene al mio programma perché punto proprio in quel momento ai Mondiali. Sono stato nel nord Italia molte volte, ma solo una volta nel sud Italia. Questo vale anche per la mia ragazza, quindi 5 Days of Sicily è stata molto invitante”.
