The countdown begins and it will take us towards the awaited fifth edition of 5 Days of Italy. The official bulletin is online with all the technical information relating to the 5 stages that await you in Cadore from 1 to 5 July and the services available during your stay.
This news concludes the intense journey with which we wanted to guide you in recent months to explore the Cadore area. The last stage of 5 Days of Italy will be a Sprint distance hosted by Pieve di Cadore: we want to talk to you about this village, together with the Royal IAT San Vito di Cadore office, to discover its peculiarities.
THE DOOR OF THE DOLOMITES
Perched on a hill at an altitude of 878 m, Pieve di Cadore is the natural gateway to the heart of the Belluno Dolomites and is only an hour and a half from Venice. A strategic position, therefore, where you can stay and also set out to discover the Veneto. Administrative and cultural hub of central Cadore, a lively commercial centre, Pieve is a town known above all for its artistic, historical and literary heritage.
PRECIOUS TRACES OF HISTORY
Pieve hides historical riches that are lost over time. In the hamlet of Pozzale, the remains of a necropolis and a hut from the pre-Roman era (4th-2nd century B.C.) were found. In the subsoil of the center were found artifacts from the first cent. B.C. – 1st cent. A.D., including a statuette of Diana the huntress, some Roman coins, a bronze cup with a dedication written in Latin to the god Mars and some spoons.
Excavations at the Town Hall have brought to light a Roman building and those carried out in front of the Gran Caffè Tiziano have made it possible to find an altar with a Latin inscription, a bone fragment with a Venetic inscription and a piece of terracotta vase. In the main square is the Magnificent Community of Cadore Palace with the MARC-Cadore Archaeological Museum, where the archaeological finds found in Cadore are kept and exhibited.
A MUSEUM DEDICATED TO EYEWEAR
Centro Cadore has distinguished itself over the years for the production and sale of eyewear. The Eyewear Museum, located in Cos.Mo Palace and visitable by appointment, collects about four thousand pieces that allow the history of eyewear to be reconstructed, making it a unique museum of its kind. In the goodie bag of all 5 Days participants you will find, thanks to the Magnificent Community of Cadore, a presentation brochure of the Eyewear Museum and also of the House of Titian, an artist of the 16th century who was the best interpreter of tonalism and color painting, of which we have already talked about here.
Only one week and it will finally be 5 Days of Italy!

Con questa news si conclude l’intenso viaggio con cui abbiamo voluto guidarti in questi mesi alla scoperta del territorio del Cadore. L’ultima tappa di 5 Days of Italy sarà una Sprint distance ospitata da Pieve di Cadore: proprio di questo villaggio, insieme all’Ufficio Regio IAT San Vito di Cadore, vogliamo parlarti per scoprirne insieme le peculiarità.
LA PORTA DELLE DOLOMITI
Arroccata su un colle a quota 878 m, Pieve di Cadore è la naturale porta di entrata nel cuore delle Dolomiti Bellunesi e dista solamente un’ora e mezza da Venezia. Una posizione strategica, quindi, dove poter soggiornare e partire anche alla scoperta del Veneto. Fulcro amministrativo e culturale del centro Cadore, vivace centro commerciale, Pieve è una cittadina conosciuta soprattutto per il suo patrimonio artistico, storico e letterario.
PREZIOSE TRACCE DI STORIA
Pieve nasconde ricchezze storiche che si perdono nel tempo. Nella frazione di Pozzale sono stati ritrovati resti di necropoli e di una capanna di epoca pre-romana (IV-II sec. a.C.). Nel sottosuolo del centro sono stati rinvenuti reperti del periodo I sec. a.C. – I sec. d.C., tra cui una statuina di Diana cacciatrice, alcune monete romane, una coppa di bronzo con dedica scritta in latino al dio Marte e alcuni cucchiai.
Gli scavi presso il Municipio hanno portato alla luce un edificio romano e quelli effettuati davanti al Gran Caffè Tiziano hanno permesso di ritrovare un altare con iscrizione latina, un frammento osseo con iscrizione venetica e un pezzo di vaso in terracotta. Nella piazza principale si trova il Palazzo della Magnifica Comunità di Cadore con il MARC-Museo Archeologico Cadorino, dove vengono conservati ed esposti i reperti archeologici ritrovati in Cadore.
UN MUSEO DEDICATO ALL’OCCHIALE
Il Centro Cadore si è distinto negli anni per la produzione e la vendita di occhiali. Il Museo dell’Occhiale, situato presso il Palazzo Cos.Mo e visitabile su prenotazione, raccoglie circa quattromila pezzi che permettono di ricostruire la storia dell’occhiale, rendendo un museo unico nel suo genere. Nel pacco gara di tutti i partecipanti 5 Days troverai, grazie alla Magnifica Comunità del Cadore, proprio una brochure di presentazione del Museo dell’Occhiale e anche della Casa del Tiziano, artista del ‘500 miglior interprete del tonalismo e della pittura del colore, di cui avevamo già parlato qui.
